MTV Reports on Kanye West X G-Shock Event

If you're on twitter (which is down right now), you may have kept reading 'g-shock, g-shock, kanye, g-shock' all night from your favorite NYC hip hop bloggers, artists and personalities - why? Because, well, there was an invite only event for the watch brand's party that EVERY tastemaker seemed to be at.

There seems to be minimal video popping up, because security was tight and ACTUALLY enforcing the no-camera, no-recording rule. I'm sure we'll see some good footage soon, though.

For now, MTV Reports:

Kanye West must really like G-Shock watches. The Def Jam star put on a spectacular performance for the second year in a row at Casio's Shock the World event at Cipriani's on Wall Street, where the company unveiled new timepieces and a series of collaborations with Redman, celebrity tattoo artist Mister Cartoon and skateboarder Stevie Williams, among others.

West capped off the festivities with an hourlong set. He entered wearing a mask to shield his face and was accompanied by a shifting digital display behind him that counted down his time onstage. The rap star was often restrained while performing some of his biggest hits, including Jay-Z's latest, "Run This Town," sans Rihanna and Jay. The toned-down effect signaled a quiet intensity reminiscent of an "MTV Unplugged" session.

"This is my favorite song of my career," 'Ye told the lively crowd in the middle of his set, tossing his mask as the opening chord of "Can't Tell Me Nothing" began.

But Kanye wouldn't be Kanye if he didn't take at least one opportunity to speak up. So while he was restrained, he definitely wasn't quiet. Before he closed out the night with "Stronger," he went into a 10-minute "Pinocchio Story"-esque freestyle in which he spoke on the discomforts of fame and took a moment to lash out at the media, even referring to his encounter with the paparazzi at LAX. "I have to pay a f---ing $100,000 'cause he says I hurt his f---ing arm," 'Ye rapped, letting the words hang in the air. "But I was just trying to break his camera, not cause him no harm."

Miami Rapper Brisco Pistol Whipped and Robbed

Armed men stormed a Miami barbershop last week, pistol-whipping rapper Brisco and stealing jewelry and his Range Rover.

Police are searching for four men who stormed the barber shop at 6301 NW Sixth Ave. last Wednesday.

Brisco left a photo shoot and got to the shop before 1 p.m. One man walked into the store, pretending to be a customer. The man spoke on his cellphone, telling whomever was on the line it was OK to come in. Three men, armed with handguns, went into the shop and told the customers to keep their heads down.

The men demanded Brisco's car keys.

The robbers stole more than $35,000 worth of jewelry -- including a yellow gold watch with diamonds, a chain and a yellow gold bracelet with diamonds. A Louis Vuitton wallet and more than $1,000 in cash was also taken. They fired three shots, striking no one, before running off.

Police later found the Range Rover at Northeast Second Avenue and 67th Street.

Authorities had this description of the robbers: a man with full-sleeve tattoos on both forearms, wearing a red shirt and blue jean shorts, a baseball hat and Timberland boots; a man in a long, white T-shirt, gray sweat shorts and a baseball hat; a man with a beard, wearing a white T-shirt, black pants, a black hat, white sneakers, striped black-and-white boxers; and a heavy set man in a black shirt, black hat, black pants and black sneakers.

Mos Def - Latest Innovation In Selling His Album

In a rather bold and ground breaking move, Mos Def is selling t-shirts as his album. Linking up with lnaclothing.com the shirts will come with a unique download code, in which purchasers of the shirts can download the album free off the net. Though soundscan will currently not count the shirts sales as units sold for the record. Though in reality, I think that will matter not to Mos Def if he reaches the satisfying figures with the shirt sales.

Reference Link: HipHopdx

I honestly have to applaud Def's decision. An I won't be surprised if artists start to choose more innovative ways to market, promote and sell their works. It's just another example of how the formula's of old are losing their credibility and authenticity. It's safe to say that the Digital Independent Era is well on its way to take the industries reigns.

The Manual: Autotune... To Use Or Not To Use?

The Controversy around this plug in right now is insane, Alot of people feel a certain way... Some of the Purist/"Real Hip Hop" Community Are completely against it... Alot of The More Mainstream heads Are Completely for it and dont see what the big deal is, but I think Theres More to It, than what people Are currently looking at, and nobody has really attempted to take a close look at what all the "Fuckin' Fussins For (Because I'm Grubbin More... and I Pack Heat... Like the Oven Door") Aite, now on one end... you have a group of people that are Sick of hearing the same shit, they feel the format of comercial radio is generic and it needs to be changed. and on the other, you have a group of people who are making money off this generic music, or are into it and/or dont feel its generic.. Its just an assist to give you a more trendy sound to them, I guess... But In Any Event, I see the points of both sides, But I think their both right in some respects, but they both need a closer look at what the core of the controversy really is.

Now, I gotta Quote Jim Jones For a Second:

"We're getting money off of autotune, it's just sounding like somebody's trying to knock a hustle and I don't think that's a little bit gangster if you ask me," Jones explained. "We getting money. He's knocking the hustle, ya dig? If these young men are making money off of autotune why would you try to stop that, when you got all the money already?" (106 & Park)

See... This is where dudes is missing the point, I dont think Jay Z is Attacking dudes just to knock their hustle or Stop them from making money, To Me it looks like Jay is Tired of Mediocre Talents Making Money Off a Cheap Effect thats Played Out Anyway. Cuz First Off, If You need Autotune To make Money, Are you Really talented enough to deserve to Make it? If Autotune is the Core Of your whole Repitour, Then Why Should You have A spot in Regular Rotation when theres 50 other rappers lined up to be your spot with a million times the talent as you? You Mean To Tell Me you Aint Knocking their hustle? you Aint Making It Hard For Them? I heard Graphs "On Da Spot freestyle" And It was Sad... That dude Has crazy Talent, Along with alot of mainstream Potential, And "Pop Champagne " Is making it hard for him to Break Through, And Right Now, Jay Z Is his Only Voice on a Mainstream level.

But thats Besides the Point, the Point Is... That so many people are trying to make a quick buck off autotune, its fucking the whole genre up, and I dont care what anyone says... "Hip Hop" > "The Next Autotune Abusin ass niggas Pockets" Any day... And If they Dont like it, Then they can Take Their Music and Grow, and learn how to make a hit without autotune... Jay did it... so did Wayne, & Kanye... Which is Probably why Jay Said he wasent mad at them for it. Because I dont Think the Issue is Autotune... I think the issue is how you use it... If your a talented dude, and your using it for fun, or because its in style, and You have more to you than A Catchy autotune assited hook, than its ok, but if your really just a dude who's using autotune... and not great a much else... You need to give it a rest or step your game up.

The Manual: Soulja boy wants to reach out to Jay, Kanye and Wayne for a Classic Album?

All Hip Hop Recently posted an Article about how Soulja boy Wants to Make a Classic album, And How he says he's Grown Up, He's no longer a Kid. Though I cant help but to feel where he's coming from, because it must be frustrating as hell to gain everything you could possibly want and acomplish everything you once thought you needed to acomplish to be dope in this game, but still lack the respect of a lot of people. I sympathize for him, but I still think he's missing the point. People arent hating on him because he never did a track with Jay Z or Kanye. There looking at him as someone who didnt respect the technical aspect of his craft and make sure is rhymes were on point, and someone who used the gimickey cheap method to force feed us more bullshit music with no point or artistic value via the radio and internet. If He's going to do the same thing he did with the last 2 albums, except these are gonna have Jay Z and Kanye on it... How in the hell is that gonna be different? Jay And Kanye might have Classic verses, but the album will be the same old shit. And this isint a hate blog... I really want to see soulja boy make a classic album, to teach this generation what a classic is, and open their eyes to the fact that theres more out their than "turning your swag on" and "Shaking your booty meat". But the truth of the matter is, Not Everyone can Make a Classic Album, and If He wants to make one He's going to need to completely step his game up, and rethink his music from the ground up.

Truth be told, I respect this statement his making more than anything, And I like how he's aware of whats going on, Theres A Huge bandwagon of people that View Him as something like the Real Hip Hop Anti-christ Like He intentionally wakes up in the mourning and thinks "hmm how am I gonna further kill hip hop" and thats probably the furthest thing from the truth, cuz he's only human, and knows only whats put infront of him, and real hip hop, rhyme skills, and classic albums might not have been that. But that doesent excuse him from the fact that he spent the greater part of his carear so far putting out bullshit. Yes, bullshit that sold... But You could paint shit gold (or ringtone platinum in this case).. and its shit none the less... I think what Soulja Boy needs Is Less of a Classic collab or Co-sign, And More Of a Mentor who has put out classic material and could school him to what a classic is really about. Because I like what he wants to do, and think in his position he would be a good person to do it if he could, but he needs more than a feature to do it.

Chris Brown - Requests to Delay Assault Trial Denied

As we're all accustomed to the Brown/Rihanna situation which took place early this year. With pictures of the injuries Rihanna incurred due to the altercation surfacing across the net, irreparable damage has been done to Brown's career. In the latest in the trial, Brown's attorney (Mark Geragos) filed petition to delay the hearing was denied on the wednesday just past (June 17th). Brown and his attorney are due back in court this coming Monday, for the preliminary hearing. Where after its proceedings we will find out whether or not Brown is to stand trial over the assault.

Personally, regardless of his stardom or celebrity. A woman beater, is a woman beater. I hope he does time, an not no minimum security prison. He should do time just as anyone else who had done as such would. He'd wanna hope its not minimum security. He still gotta look over his shoulder for Jay-Z...

Young Jeezy - 24 23 (Gucci Mane & OJ Da Juiceman Diss)

Beef seems a never ending and constant variable in hip hop these days. An this isn't the first dispute jeezy's had with Gucci but OJ Da Juiceman? I'd never even heard of this guy until reading the May Issue of XXL. So to give you's a bit of heads up on who he be.

He's the CEO of his 32 Entertainment Record Label. Born Otis Williams Jr, 27 Years Old, straight outta Atlanta.

Supreme Mathamatics: 40 Dash Talks About Upcoming Trial, Shows, And New Projects

onefiftyone
40

40 hit me with this free beat for all you dudes out there to use

So Whats Good Wit You, How You Doing Right about Now?

I'm doin Good g, just working alot. I got caught up in some nonsense. So im appearing in court next week. I been goin to church which I never thought I'd Be doing, considering I swore I was agnostic. But religion and faith has really helped me out in hard times feel me? Especially for a cat like me that usually bottles shit up, its nice to have SOMEONE to turn to.

Oh Werd? So You been Feeling Kinda Faithfull In the Midst of all the drama?

Somethin like that, My dude DJ Salis put me on to Christianity after a By chance meeting where we were exchanging music and just catchin up, But he asked me to pray with him and I had an intense feeling on my chest the rest of the day. It was nuts. ha I dont know man, sometimes desperate times bring out the truth and whats best for you Dig?
word, I'm sure alot of people relate, you mind getting into whats going on right now? I heard your going to court on monday

Yea Im just goin for the trial. I dont really wanna get into the details. but 40 dash 1 is Definately an Innocent man. Im only 20 years old but I stopped living a stupid life nearly 3 years ago. No Drugs Liquor Guns or Gangs for me. Thats in the Past tense man. I work full time and kill this music shit with my free time

I see... So It seems like the life might have just found a way to catch you off gaurd?

Man real talk just be careful of who you associate yourself with. Like i said, I changed my life. Just being around people that slip up is enough now a days. I aint the type to start droppin names though. Theres not 1 shred of evidence tying me to any crime so I should be fine. I consider it karma really. I did alot of shit in the past, maybe this is Gods way of saying, I aint forget your big ass

haha.. yeah, karma can be bad sometimes... I wish you the best bro, But its definately a good thing that your on the right track now but How is your music coming along? whats going on with you on that tip?

Word, Music is what keeps me sane yo. Word up, If it wasnt for music Id still be on some other shit. But I been Tearin up the show circuit, And workin wit my people. I only associate myself with people that want to PROCEEEED in life, and there crafts. So its safe to say my circle lives on condenser mics and MPCs lol. but Yea I got a solo project comin out soon, Im gonna be htitin the streets hard with that and also a collabo mixtape with the team So be on the lookout. The reason yall aint seen me on the forums and internet scene lately is cause im takin a different route right now. Doin shit the old school way and creatin a buzz Nah mean god? All I Can say is I dont think Prov is ready for me. When i do shows I get the most love and the biggest ovation. But im stayin humble and keepin my eyes open cause this only the beginning

Yeah, I like to hear shit like that, I notice alot of people slack on their work ethic, or have one dimensional hustles, only focusing on one aspect... like myspace promo or w/e... How has this show thing been treatin you? What would you say to a dude thinking about taking that step?

I would tell dude to Get on the stage and Tell em what they need to hear !! The first show I was nervous as fuck, after that When your comfortable. Its a wrap. Just do what you love yo. Its just another avenue , The best in my opinion to send your message to the public. You have total control over what you wanna say. I had a dude talk to me on some confrentational shit just so i would step closer and see what he was going to say or do next. His perogative for that was to gain attention, not to fight. Use the mix to your advantage dont be scared of the shit

that sounds pretty crazy fam... So how long do you plan to be on this show shit? whats the next step for you?

Forever g, Performin is what Artists do. Its gives them a chance to express what they really have boiling up in there soul in a way that an ordinary audio track or video cant. The next step for me is getting on some mixtapes. Diggz and Rated R most likely, They in the streets crazy. Also hring some Features. Canibus and Sha Stimuli are a couple examples of cats I would like to work with. After I get my lawyer money right Thats The direction ima Roam in

I see.. So whats the next project? Whens it coming out?

You can Expect to See hard copied of '40 Days and 40 nights' By Fall. Im not really rushing this one cause I want it to be natural and have a Completed sound to it
I have in the upwards of 30+ Tracks to sift through and sort out
Plus the team is complete with 3 producers including myself
So Its just a waiting game of finding the right sound

I see.. Thats cool, I didnt know you was a producer... Its good to see you diversifying your talent

Man i like to do everything, Computer Graphics, Beats, Engineering, Spittin that raw shit I used to fuck wit Graff back in the day on that note Check the myspace, which has my graphics on the layout! Myspace.com/tracedablock

haha, so your just a well rounded dude

I try to dip my brain in everything man. You might as well try and expand yourself whereever possible. Supreme Knowledge is the key

Yeah, I feel that, So Do You have anything With Labels Or Distributers going on right now? Anything to get 40Dash Out To an even larger audience?

At the moment, nah Me and my team are trying to Build ourselves up to that level mentally first. But thats in the near future. We havent even assembled a studio demo for the labels yet. We just organizing our schedules to build interlectually for now. Its hard cause of my work schdule really. 3rd shift is nuts g. but soon enough. The only type of deal I would take is a distribution deal . Im not going to become a vitcim of the industry yo. Word up

haaa, Yeah, I didnt take you for the typical feening to be signed type rapper

Theres no point man. Its not that I dont think Im capable. Im fully aware I am, Nowadays a Label is just a piece of paper saying blahblahblah ENT owns your silly ass. And 9 times out of 10 they want to convert your sound to something your not. and in there eyes its, either do it or im not putting your shit out, so your stuck and thats not me... I know some local dudes makin more guap off doin shows that some sucker signed to a label that doesnt promote HIS sound at all

Yeah, speaking of which, How do You Feel About how its lookin for An Indie artist Right Now? Do You think the With the Net And Everything The Playing Field Might be becoming a little more level?

Ill put it this way. Everyone has an equal opportunity to be heard nowadays. Your Goal is to create a buzz. Whether through some type of promo whether it be flyers, Emails, Internet radios . Then you need to hit the venues and perform. Nobodys getting rich off CD sales anymore. You make money off performing. Point blank

I see.. So More Less, Its kinda In The Air For whoevers got what it takes to come for it right now?

its just your hunger for it. Nobodys gonna get it for you. If your musics Hot, and you know what kind of audience you have then exploit it. Air yourself out. Give out burnt CDS for free with a track or 2 and an intro saying COME SEE ME TONIGHT AT BLA BLA BLA bring your friends this shit gonna be off the chain... you just need a marketing plan

Yeah, I Can Feel That... So.. Is There Anything You want People To Know Right Now? Any shout outs you wanna make?

Shout outs To the Whole Rhode Island Hip Hop Scene, Prov, Pawtucket, Everyone Who still makes REAL music, To the cats that listen to the REAL MUSIC we make. Joel Venom, Chito, MFC Shout to you 151. The whole team Knuckle Up, Trey Questions, Danny James, Shouts out to Jesus Christ.. that about it fam

Aite, So I wish You Luck With Your Upcoming Court date..With that saidd Weee Outtt

PEACE
